We'll be heading South on I-15 thru ID., heading to Vernal Utah, GS Trip Planner wants to take me on I-84 near South Ogden to US 40, 310.5 mi,5.0 hours, Google Maps takes me to I-80 at South Salt Lake to the same exit for US 40, 311 mi., 4hours 45 min., anybody done either, opinions, both look like they go through the mountains, both being Interstates which is the easiest, (less mountainest) if that's even a word.
Guess i could flip a coin. :h

Or take a route that might not only be more fun but pretty scenic and really Beautiful and gets you away from the I's. 🙂

We were in Island Park and Victor for a couple weeks last summer - we took this route to Vernal, Loved the drive. But that might just be me.

Alpine to Manila/Flaming Gorge then to Vernal - MAP

We also stopped to swim on the Beach just outside Manila on the Lake, Kids and adults both loved it.

Just one more option - that does not come out of Google Maps. 🙂

Best of Luck,

If I remember I-84 follows a canyon plus by-passes traffic through Salt Lake.
East out of Salt Lake is a steeper climb. I-84 is more gradual.
