What are your campfire cooking essentials?

As an RVer who cooks on a campfire what do you consider as the essentials in your kit?

For me it might vary depending on the menu and how many I'm feeding.

When we're traveling and not entertaining the bare minimum is a griddle, a 12 inch DO, cooking oil, a fireproof spatula, a fireproof spoon and charcoal.

Nothing wrong with a good FIRE but majority do not maintain their campfires and they just smoke

Besides Fan....my cast iron skillet and fire poker
Or one can use the fan to blow one's own campfire smoke toward that neighbor who won't turn down the stereo... ๐Ÿ˜‰ ...just kidding.

Loud music doesn't bother me...I'm deaf in one ear and can't hear out of the other one :W

Besides music doesn't affect breathing but the smoke does affect HER

My boy scout days taught me only a knife is really necessary!

What we use most is a fish or burger holder, we've had several. 2 grates that hold flattish food pieces. Then with the heavy leather mitt, you just hold it over whatever is hot. Good wood smoke flavor, infinitely adjustable cooking. Easy cleanup by burning off anything stuck on.

I haven't tried using it for s'mores, cause we carry way too much other stuff!

We have 2 rome pie irons, a stainless steel rack that we will put tin foil on to cook chicken and baked potatoes. I like the pie irons for cooking grilled cheese sandwiches, hamburgers and deserts.

- heavy leather gloves or "ove glove"
- adjustable pole mounted grate (like Cabela's Adjust-a-Grate) and wire brush
- meat hook/flipper
- good GOOD cooking wood (oak, hickory, mesquite, apple) or hardwood lump charcoal
- heavy foil & disposable aluminum holding/serving pans

We camp often with a group and I and a friend do breakfasts and evening meal cooks for the group. We both somewhat aspire to be like Ken Rollins when we retire.

Sounds like a great time. Maybe we'll meet each other one day in a campground.

You reminded me and I forgot to mention the lid lifter and the welder's gloves I carry.
