This will be the fourth yr for out camper. In previous campers I was never able to get more that 2 yrs before I replaced the original dealer batteries. Some go longer. Some last shorter. An electrolyte tester is the best way to determine the health of a battery. I purchased my current FW new 8/15/2012, at which time a single Interstate RV/Marine battery was installed. It is still in great shape, works like new. I only had to add water one time, after using a different charger, while battery was stored for Winter. That was five years ago, and water in battery is right where it should be last week, when I installed it back in my FW. The stock converter chargers in many RV's don't do a great job getting batteries to 100% and many don't do equalization charges. In addition the standard battery monitors give poor information as to state of charge so you are basically guessing leading to the batteries easily becoming discharged too low. In either case they just can't deal with being drawn down time and again if you do lots of RVing off the power grid. If you mostly camp hooked up to a power pedestal any type of battery would suffice. Since we most often attempt to boondock or drycamp we found golfcart batteries give more bang for the buck.
