I just discovered today that someone broke one of the crankout awning windows (7”x42” approx) in the rear of the 5vr. I called the local Keystone dealer and he said I’d be better off going to a glass shop since it could take him 4 months to get one in. I called the glass shop he recommended and they said they could not do a tempered glass replacement and I should contact the dealer to get the whole assembly, frame and all.??
Has anyone had a tempered glass panel replaced by a glass shop. The glass shop also said they could not replace it with regular glass due to the pressure when travelling down the highway.
Thanks for any advice.

I would try Easy RV Windows they make all kinds of window replacements. Their staff is very knowledgeable and very helpful. Give them a call,I know they helped me out.

Keep looking till you find a glass shop that will make a tempered glass for you.

Thanks, I had a quick look at that site and they don’t metion this type of window. Also, I am in Canada, so that may make it more difficult....likely why the dealer said 4 months? I did get ahold of a local glass shop that said they would do it, but I have to remove the frame and bring it to them so they can make a template. Then they will send it to their manufacturer to get the glass made.??

I think I would take the frame to hardware store, put in Plexiglas.

I was thinking Plexiglas as well. Easy to cut and work with even at home. Clear sheets are usually readily available and you could apply window tinting to match.

46 years working with glass and all the rest of the construction stuff..
Tempered glass is not a problem, however,
The local glass shop cannot do it because the tempering of glass is a special process and requires special equipment. Think of it as a large oven - tempering is heat treating the glass.
The glass shop has to send the glass out to get tempered, then get it back and install it. They likely can't be bothered because it is a small job and a bit time consuming. Tempered glass cannot be cut. It has to be cut to size, then tempered.
And you don't need a template, you just need the size, and it has to be exact. You need the thickness of it too. Keep a broken piece so it can be measured. 3 mil, maybe 4?
Where in Canada are you? If you are anywhere near Calgary I will fix it for you. Easy to do.
Or, if you can get the exact specs, and the tint, I can get it made here and send it to you. Might be a bit of a challenge to match the tint exactly.
Here is another option. I can get lots of 4 or 4.5 mil tinted acrylic. That stuff is easy to cut. I have the tools for that. I had a break in once to a TT and replaced the broken window with acrylic. Nobody, including myself could tell the difference by looking at it.
Taking out the whole window and sending it away? Forget that!! Fix it where it sits.

Easy to replace the entire window if you can get one. Ours cost $800 but only took an hour to swap out.

I am in Winnipeg. Thanks for the offer but I will deal with it here. It is 0.131” thick. The glass shop gave me a rough price of $80.00 installed if I bring them the frame and about 3 weeks turnaround. That sounds pretty good to me if it’s not too hard to remove. I will see if I can get lexan or acrylic and tinting film quicker?

The problem replacing a complete window assembly is the shipping cost that many times is more than the cost of the window.
