Bit of a toss up, but I'd take Hwy 139 to KFalls, Hwy 97 out of KF to Bend is an easy drive but a bit boring till you meet up around Hwy 58.

Hope you don't mind me adding on a question. Some years ago I drove this route. From Susanville I took 395 to Alturas, then 299 over to 139. Is there any problem with 139 between Susanville to Canby? Seems like I was advised not to drive that section of 139, but maybe there was construction or a fire that year (I can't remember).

If you take 139, stop in Adin at the general store -- great sandwiches.
