When the absorption refrigerator is in the gas mode is the flame always lit or does it go on and off as needed.

Looked at the manual. Yes, it is full pilot light system with 120 volt element as a manual setting.
It just sounded odd that it is pilot light style.

It's a Dometic RM2353. The kind where you have to hold in the gas button then push the piezo button to light it.

Well... My "old" (1990) fridge has the DSI thing and does turn off and on with the snick, click, snick business.

My "new" (2004) fridge stays lit all the time - that's the small fridge in our B.

About this I know I'm not wrong.

For your fridge...

You should hear the "snick-snick-snick-snick whoosh" when the pilot lights and the fridge starts. It will turn off on its own when it hits the configured temp, and then snick-snick-snick-snick whoosh when it cycles back on again.

(...unless I'm wrong)

No pilot...flame IS the main flame on fridge
My fridge doesn't 'snick'---it CLICKS LOL

Old,Old models did have a bypass flame
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Old fridges, the flame got bigger and smaller.
Modern DSI fridge, the flame comes and goes.

Fridge thermostat controls the heating cycles be it AC Element or the GAS Flame

Older models (smaller cabinet/compact) used a gas control that would regulator size of flame based on temp dial setting
Closer to MAX...flame would stay ON
