Looking for recommendations for CG around Durango and in the area around Buena Vista / Salida. Planning on riding the Jeep trails in the area. DW likes water and electric hookups.

Thanks for the help. Just got back from a 15 day trip to Colorado. Stayed at Snowy Peaks in Buena Vista and United Campgrounds in Durango. Both were shady and clean campgrounds. Staff at both were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend them to anyone looking to stay in those areas.

We spent last August at Vallecito Resort on Vallecito Lake north of Durango. It was OK.
I would look at Delores northwest of Durango.
Also Sportsmans north of Pagosa Springs.
Durango, and Pagosa to a lesser extent, are not what they used to be. Too much growth for me.

We are currently sitting at the United CG next to the narrow gauge RR 4 miles N of Durango

These folks have stepped way out of their way to accommodate us after we showed up with an issue making our 5er very difficult to move. We are on an indefinite layover as we wait for parts.

Nice CG with plenty of trees to give shade during current heat. Great views across the valley.

The Buena Vista KOA is used a lot, and is priced like all KOA's, but is in a central location with easy access to the main highways. With the right site, some great views of the area. Has some nice adjacent hiking too.

We liked Lightner Creek Campground outside Durango a lot. VERY steep entrance road. Check with them though, while it accommodates full size MH's, it might be a bit tight with a toad.

Just get on the Phone and start calling, they are all Full you will need to find a cancelation of which happen all the Time, So the only way to get a spot is to beat someone else - just the way it is.

We use Campendium.com to find the places to Call - we were in and around the areas you are visiting, last summer, with no reservations - but - we also Boondock so we survived.

Best of Luck,

There are a number of RV parks and campgrounds around South Fork and Creede. And Lake City area is a popular, and beautiful, area for jeep trails.
