Trying to register my Fifth Wheel Cougar 2015 in AZ. Cannot figure out how much it will cost. Can't follow their calculation they have.

I checked on how AZ registration fees are calcuated and updated my 6/23/21 post to reflect the small difference between a new and used vehicle.

Moved to Arizona at the end of April 2020. Went to the Kingman ADOT MVD & registered BOTH of them for two years for $208 TOTAL. Good luck getting a similar deal in Cali. My 1996 GMC Suburban's registration was almost $200 (and going up every year) for 2019/2020. I sold it before I moved.
Yes a 16.25% decrease every year really reduces AZ fees for older vehicles, probably to a minimum amount.

However newer vehicles pay a much higher rate.

Just spoke to a dealer friend and this is not correct. =Any= time a vehicle is sold by a =dealer=, sales tax is paid on it; doesn't matter if it's a new vehicle or a used one originally sold in AZ. Only private sales are not taxed.

FWIW, if you trade in another vehicle, you only pay sales tax on the NET amount, not the full amount. It's always something to think about when trading in a vehicle. I.e. is the difference you'd get on a private sale more than the tax you'll pay on the purchase without a trade? Given the prices on used cars/trucks these days, I'd say trade it in!

A utility trailer < 10k GVW can get a permanent plate here. Towable RVs are specifically excluded under ARS.

AZ truck registration appears more expensive than California. Wow.

That's because vehicle registration here is a de facto property tax, though it =does= go down. Minimum is about $35 without any fancy stuff, like vanity plates, university plate, etc. Crazy thing is, you can have a "retro car", like a $100k+ Cobra or '65 Corvette repro and it's registered as whatever year it's modeled after. I talked to a guy a number of years ago that had a Cobra 427. Paid $85k for it in the 90's and was paying $35 a year to register it, even though it was a year old. Registered as a '65.

Gotta collect some revenue some how some way when you have no or very little state taxes. One way or another it all adds up to what each state thinks it needs to operate on.

My brother just did his 2019 F350 $1700. But that was for 5 years. It was around $700(?) in CA for 1 year.

FYI, when I moved there in 03, I had to take my 5er in for an inspection... IIRC just a VIN inspection. So be prepared. Craig

Iโ€™d ask at an AZ DMV office if I couldnโ€™t do the math. But does it really matter if you will register there anyway?

Do you ever go somewhere to put down that kind of change without knowing at least a ballpark of what it will cost?
