So we have a camper at a seasonal camp ground. Our meter has not moved for months, we keep getting electrical bills for $0.00. Yet we still have electricity coming to our camper. All the sites have individual meters that get read every month. When we first noticed the low bill, we contacted the front office to say “we think the meter is defective, we had an extremely low bill”, their response was “don’t worry, next time they read the meter, it will catch up”…..well it hasn’t.
My question is : is the park being charged for the electricity, and I am not getting charged
Or is the town paying and the campground is not being charged for my monthly usage?
I think I am going to mention it again…I just do not want to have it come back at me.
Any suggestions?

Barry,

It sounds like the meter is owned by the campground. That be the case, you have mentioned it to them, and you might mention it again but if their bookkeeping doesn't flag a zero bill, then they are missing something. I suspect that you like them and the place. Try to get their attention again.

By all means, do the right thing.....but I would suggest doing it via email so you have a trail. If you get an outrageous bill in the future it will show your actions and intent.

Do the right thing again by advising them in writing. Remember the person you give the writing. Keep a copy and enjoy.

When you say you have it at a seasonal CG. Are you there or is it empty?

Turn on the air/con and then go look at the meter. You should be able to see it moving. If it's not, something is wrong. Either the meter is somehow damaged and not recording power or it has somehow been bypassed.

I agree with notifying them via email, so there is a paper trail if they come back later to confirm that you tried to let them know.

I would set aside an amount roughly equivalent to what you are used to paying in the past. That way, if they figure it out and there is a bill, you can just write them a check.

Are you atually reading the meter yourself and the numbers haven't moved? Or are you taking the zero bill as the meter didn't move?
