Jacking up 5th wheel?

When you jack up your 5th wheel do you:
- place the jack under the axle between the hanger u-bolts
- jack up the frame
- use a ramp to drive the good tire onto
- other...please explain

Well, given that my 12t lo-pro jack is < 8" tall, you could easily angle it under the axle, between the u-bolts and stand it upright. Especially as the axle is angled upwards from the flat to the inflated tire.

Thanks, just seems so much easier to simply pull up onto something under the good tire (and safer).

No, I thought he was speaking of driveway repair, I used the truck jack on the side of the highway and with the big trucks going by the trailer was moving around, didn't like that felling but completed the job.

I know I'll catch **** for it, but if it came down to it, I'd use my 4-point leveling system to jack the whole rig up. Each jack is capable of lifting nearly the whole GVW of my KZ, so 2 should work well, let alone all 4. Just leveling my rig out in the street in front of my house leaves the curb-side tires off the ground about 2".

Glad you mentioned it ,was going to pm the OP to use level up . I have replaced the tires, doing that ,and taking them to the tire shop. Also did my bearings ,and new brake shoes that way recently . I can catch he!! with you . 🙂

I do the same thing, couple chinks of wood under each jack and lift away, lets me check the drag on the rest of the brakes while I am at it also.

On my last Mobile Suites I replaced all the spring bushings, a couple rotors, wheel studs, a couple calipers and all brake pads. All that on the simple TrailerAid.

Oh and those same OVERLOADED tires were still intact after four years of fulltimimg when I traded it in.

Well the OP didn’t specify if it was changing a tire or doing bearing/brake service.
Changing a tire bottle jack under the axle at spring location. Get old tire off slap new on.

Bearing/Brake or suspension work, jack on frame, place wood cribbing under frame just behind back spring hanger, jack stands just aft of landing legs.

IMHO, the first step is pull the flat up on ramp you use for leveling until the center of axle is as high as normal. Getting jack, (and my fat self to work the jack) is easy. Only need to jack up enough to pull ramp out, much less jacking. And most important, you can't have the issue of you get the wheel off, but you are not high enough to get the inflated tire back on. If the trailer falls, there is no wheel to catch it, much less room to be under there pumping the jack.

Axle is under the spring on mine & 16" wheels so possibly there is the difference. Also use a 12T bottle jack.

Yup that would work. It is a long way from putting a flat surface under a round surface
