Back when i bought my first RV everyone recommended adding Calgon and Camco TST to your black tank.

Do people still recommend adding stuff to their black tank?

Are you adding anything to yours?

"Happy Camper", been using it for 5+ yrs, no problems and makes me a Happy Camper.. also, occasionally used in Gray tank, just mix with water and pour it in...

We just use Thetford Aqua-Kem. I’ve tried other stuff, but we like the smell of the blue stuff more than smells created by the other brands.

Agree with Thetford Aqua-Kem, it just plain works. But it works because it contains Methyl Alcohol and Formaldehyde, which I think is bad for my septic tank at home. So if I'm going to dump at home or in another septic tank, I use Thetford Campa-Chem, which sort of works unless it's real hot. It is "Formaldehyde Free!" according to the label. It contains Bromo-Nitropropane-Diol and surfactants. I guess I should find out how that affects a septic tank!

Plenty of water and frequent dumping is my preferred method.

25+ years...never needed anything. Maybe add granulated laundry detergent once a year.

Ive been using calgon, laundry soap and a bit of bleach every time I empty the black tank. I have on rare occasion done nothing if planning to dump on day two. My tanks flush out clean never smell, unless I push it for 5 days or so. Which I did once in mid summer.

Bought my 1st motorhome in 1987.
Small tanks in ClassC did generate some crud on the walls, but once a year treatment with ice cubes kept them clean.
I never hesitated to use lot of water and with 3 sons there was always lot of liquid in black tank.

I used to use tanktechsRX in my truck camper which was always moving which breaks up the solids it worked great.

But when I used it in my 5th wheel that sat all the time it did not stop the stink. In this situation AquaKem worked well.

but after I traded in everything on the MH I had a supply of aquaKem left so that went into the MH.
