UV in sunlight degrades the rubber compounds. Why Not use them??

Aside from protecting the tires they are good for statements, opinions and advertising.

Absolutely needed. Tire covers prevent UV damage.

According to Roger Marble (after his wonderful talk at an FMAC rally) modern ties are not subject to much damage from UV as the inhibitors are now included in the outer layers. What is an issue is heat. He was careful to point out that even in the northern climates, tires in the sun can accumulate a lot of heat. So, if you are buying tire covers, get the white or silver.

They serve two purposes
1: They look nice
2: They flatten your wallet.
What the DO NOT do is stop UV light from damaging the tire.
Now if you cut a slab of plywood, say 1/4 or 3/8" and lay it against the tire then cover that so it looks good.. That might stop the UV

As for UV protectorant, Use a good quality tire treatment that has UV protectorant in it.
Save your money!

Goodyear recommends covering tires if they are going to sit for a long time.

So does the UV protection ingredient in the tire rubber added by the manufacturers.
Use tire covers, tires last 7 years. Don't use tire covers, tires last........7 years.
