I imagine some of our states have similar rates. You guys have your issues though. I have cousins in Canada and I wouldn't want to be in their shoes.
I’m (now) a dual citizen, and I live where I do for many good reasons.
Ironically though, I have a bunch of family still down there, principally in CA, NY, SC & FL but all of whom have the opposite opinion of yours.

You're an idiot. First you accuse me of using the word socialism. When I prove I didn't, you make it out like I was denying I said the word whining. I did use the word whining - I never denied it. You have done nothing to verify the registration fee is accurate. If you think it is too high compared to your fees on other vehicles, then talk to the DMV. Maybe they miscalculated. Maybe they didn't believe your stated purchase price. Maybe they mistakenly double charged something.
But you'd rather sit on your @ss and whine about politics on a public forum. And then you get mad because people disagree with your politics and you start in with name calling and bashing.

So....back on topic. I think OP has a point and needs to check with DMV. My Auto purchase price 21K. Registration $218. We do pay a ton more than many states. Real life case. Porsche SUV CA registration $980. **** right, effing luxury car. Same car moves to Idaho, $90.

Yep. You'd think Teleman would have moved to another state by now if he had it so bad.

Quote: they have gone up considerably, and B) what is 2% of $16k? That's what we paid for our motorhome. Another person with foolish assumptions
If you only paid $16K for that motorhome, then that registration fee sounds too high, and I'll go back to my original question - what's the fee breakdown on your bill? I'd expect the registration fees to be about half that.

Did you pay about $98K for the Porsche? Based on your $21K purchase and only paying $218 you're paying about 1% of purchase price or value. Come to AZ and see your $980 registration turn into $1,665. Or, you could move to Idaho and only pay $90.

People like to blame politicians for the cost of living but in reality they are responsible for their own situation.
That figures. Louisiana has some of the worst maintained roads in the nation.....
