SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California will soon ban the sale of new gas-powered leaf blowers and lawn mowers, a move aimed at curbing emissions from a category of small engines on pace to produce more pollution each year than passenger vehicles.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a new law on Saturday that orders state regulators to ban the sale of new gas-powered equipment using small off-road engines, a broad category that includes generators, lawn equipment and pressure washers...

So buy now while the law is not yet in effect.

Oh I am of mixed emotions on this. I understand the need to curb emmissions
But I also understand the need or POWER.

Anyone with good used equipment is going to make some money, if they want to sell them.

Great idea. It will help offset the pollution from both India and China who are increasing electrical production using coal. And it will also further reduce California's emissions because only 75% of the electricity used in California comes from California. So 25% of the pollution from generating the additional electricity will clog the air and water of other states.
All kidding aside, it is a feel good, minimal impact law that will have many undesirable and likely unseen consequences should it ever be enacted. I wonder how happy Californians are going to be when the next big earthquake hits and generators are banned. Or when the next big forest fire can't be fought effectively because the firefighters can't use gas powered chain saws. Or your can't pump the water out of your basement in a flood because gas powered pumps are a no no.
And like most of this type of legislation it goes into effect after those who wrote and supported it are long gone, leaving others to clean up the mess. Political points in exchange for real world problems.

When generators are outlawed, only outlaws will have generators.

Hopefully when I am imprisoned for owning an illegal leaf blower my cellmate will be a store owner who didn't have gender neutral toy isles (No pink or blue color schemes, another law going into effect). It will make decoration the bars much easier.

Wanna be a "trillionaire"? Then invent a battery operated generator.

Especially one that functions during power outages.

Let's go Brandon!

OK folks, let's all take a deep breath. No where in the text of the actual bill does it mention or allude to generators. https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB1346
It does specifically address small, gas powered equipment like lawn mowers and leaf blowers. Small is the operative word.

I’m with you guys!
I remember my parents saying …What’s this country coming too??
But the ridiculousness of the past 2 years now is off the charts. This is just another example…
Well I own 4 generators currently. Was thinking about unloading 2 of them but I may start stockpiling them for a retirement fund.
This isn’t good news on price, in general, for a guy (me) who really needs 2 new mowers and there aren’t any good used ones for sale. New, I’m looking at 15grand….
Maybe the profit I make off selling Lawnboys and Husquvarnas and Honda’s to Cali residents will offset the inflation! Lol
