The world has changed. We are using more and more acronyms and abbreviations of all sorts. Just look at the Forum splash page for some examples:

Yet the ones you list have been around for decades. TV for television has, been used since about 1945.
Perhaps we think they are "used more" because we communicate in writing more than we have in decades. Before computers and texting, we wrote letters to a fair extent, but nowhere near as often as we write emails, texts, internet posts, etc.

I agree with OP. Some of the basic acronyms like RV, TV (for television, and tow vehicle here) and the like are one thing, but when I have to google acronyms just to be able to understand a conversation, that's beyond ridiculous.
Its a shame we can't communicate effectively without the use of internet to look up obscure acronyms.

If you can't figure out the acronym (or initialism if you prefer),
just say (or post) "AMF" and move on to another thread.
Of course "AMF" = "Adios My Friend! ...![awink [emoticon]](https://forums.goodsamclub.com/sharedcontent/cfb/images/awink.gif)

If I use one, then the first time I type it out in full. Within the same post, I then use the "short form".
I think this started it but typing out full words on a phone can be a pain...yes, it can be done but takes 3 times as long.
The only one that bugs me regularly is AC...particularly if you are trying to get power to the cooling unit. Are you talking about the air conditioner or the alternating current feeding it?
Most of the time, it's pretty obvious what the acronym is talking about.

Planning and Preparation Prevents Pi$$ Poor Performance
Or something similar. There are actually several variations of this, having from 5-12 P’s, but they all have the words “Pi$$ Poor Performance” in them.
