I filled up my 5 gal can with diesei in back of pickup when towing and forgot to put cap on and drove for 3 hours in light rain. Will some water damage the fuel ? Is there something I could add to the fuel ?

And I wouldn't worry about it. If you were driving, then the majority of the rain blew over the bed of the truck. The 10 drops that went in it will be caught by your water filter.

I bought this: https://www.etrailer.com/Automotive-Tools/FloTool/FTF3NC.html?feed=npn&msclkid=c1cc4dee00ef1daf4df92c0da443aa20&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Bing%20%7C%20Shop%20-%20Automotive%20Tools&utm_term=4577404350181664&utm_content=30%20-%2060

For $15-20 worth of diesel, I wouldn't want to mess with it.
If you really feel the need, used to have a water separating funnel on the boat. If you know someone who has one, you could run it back and forth between a couple jugs (but to buy one would be more than the fuel is worth).

For me, peace of mind, is worth much more than 20 bucks!
Just dump it properly, start over, cheap lesson learned.

Pour it into a clean 5 gallon bucket. Let it set for a day. Siphon 4-1/2 gallons of fuel off the top.

The fuel isn't "damaged" but is is likely contaminated with water. The unknown is how much. Most diesels have fuel/water separating filters and a warning light on the dash for water in the fuel. That's all because diesel engines do not like having water in their fuel system. You could run the fuel and hope your filter catches it. It probably will. Or, if it doesn't it might damage a very expensive part(s) of your fuel system costing thousands of dollars to replace.
I don't think I'd run it.

If you feel lucky, use the fuel, but if you are wrong…big bucks.
