Making electricity requires using a carbon based energy source somewhere in all of the chain.. Whether it is crude, natural gas, solar, hydro, there is carbon based energy used to convert to electricity somehwere.

The energy from solar from from fusion of Hydrogen to Helium in the Sun (the actual fusion reactions are more complex than a simple H->He, but it's close enough), no carbon involved.

The energy from hydro comes primarily from rain water being transported to higher ground, which is ultimately driven by the sun, no carbon involved.

Except that the reservoir itself causes huge amounts of green house gases from rotting vegetation.

Both methods are better than fossil fuel consumption.

Though in many cases, the reservoir doubles as a reservoir for drinking water, so would exist with or without the power generation.

There is also the law of conservation of matter.. Basically the same thing... I won't go into it.

I will say there are cases where matter has been converted to energy.
But I leave it up to you to figure out Who What When How and Why.
I give you only one hint: Oppenheimer.

This topic does not relate to Tech Issues for RVs.

Before posting ask if the post fits in Tech Issues which is for "Discussions relating to your rig, running gear, generators, refrigerators and other rig related electrical/mechanical problems. "

I am going to move this thread to Around the Campfire.

Yep, when plants die and the cellulose produced by photosynthesis using captured CO2 decomposes CO2 is released back into the atmosphere be it in water (see example above) or in your yard (for example mulch or grass clippings).
