Has anyone camped at Buccaneer State Park in Mississippi? Would it be a good place to spend a week? Are the RV sites nice and well spaced apart? Is there a nice beach on the gulf?

We camped there several times pre-Katrina. It was totally destroyed by the hurricane and the water park as well. I think it took several years for them to rebuild, not sure if they wanted to. But they did eventually and it is a great place. Been there several times. They redesigned it, put the buildings up high so high water wouldn't cause as much damage. They eventually rebuilt the water park as well. Love it!

It's easy in/out, sites are large and at an angle to facilitate backing in. We camped there in a 40' Phaeton with four slides. No problems with space.

The park is right across the road from the Gulf but there isn't much beach if any. We stayed there in May of 2018 and the park was like a new penny likely thanks to Katrina. Big water park and pool but they didn't open until Memorial day back then.
The town of Waveland just north of the park was ground zero for Katrina and it was pretty much destroyed. Visit the museum there. The town itself is cute with good restaurants overlooking the water.
Just south of the park is a casino but when we went there it was run down and dirty. Biloxi to the north has much better casinos.
The Stennis Space Center is at the first interstate exit in Mississippi if you are coming from the west. It's worth a couple of hours and has a bus tour thru the more secure areas. You must stay on the bus during the tour.

We have stayed there several times. It is a very popular park and seems always to be near full. There is a "disk golf course" and a water park nearby. Almost always many families with children. You will need reservations.

If you do go, be very careful about the route you take to the park. For us the most direct route includes crossing a railroad track that has a steep approach on each side. You do not want to use that route. I can give you directions if I know from which direction you are coming.

I think it is a great state park although it is not right on the Gulf.
