Morning, we are taking the class C to Fairbanks from LA, motorcycle on back, want to park the rv at a safe campground in Fairbanks, ride the Haul Rd to Prudhoe Bay. Any suggestions on a safe campground, place a 12 yr old can stay and have fun with family?
Also is the 5 hwy from Tok to Little Gold and Dawsin City passable for an RV? My son wants to see Tombstone Territorial Park. Looks like a 18 hr drive otherwise. I do understand the road in July should be snow free, mostly compact dirt, gravel and oiled?
..
Thanks

Top of the World Hwy is gravel mostly, with chip seal as well.

My buddy picked that book up last week. New version. I reckon we can ride bikes over it in worst case scenario, leave RV in Tok? CHeck it out. IF a go, fetch the gear and do it>
Any word on camping at the Tombstone Territorial park?

I've stayed at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks more than once. It was $12 in 2019. Dry camping, an actual parking lot, but safe and there's a lot to see in the Park, itself, like authentic cabins that have been relocated and the air museum. While you're in FB, I highly recommend the Riverboat Discovery trip. I guarantee you will enjoy it. https://www.riverboatdiscovery.com/

Yes there is free firewood in Canada's campgrounds but bring an axe to split it!
We stayed at Riverview in Fairbanks for 2 weeks and drove the truck up past Atigun pass and spent 2 nights in a cabin in Wiseman. Riverview was a nice safe campground. This was in 2019.

There is NOT free firewood in Canada’s campgrounds. Yukon Territory has free firewood.

I've done the Top of the World twice, most recently in 2019 in a 36' Class C. Road was under a lot of construction but no problem. Great free ferry across the Yukon into Dawson City. Good campground in Dawson. Check out the Sourtoe Cocktail Social club downtown.
