Cabover clearance w/new truck?

In the past I've had a few truck campers, (2) AF 990 and an EC 1165 that I hauled on a 2006 F-450. I never had any cab clearance issues with any of them just using just a 3/8" standard bed mat on top of a spray in bed liner.

My new truck is a 2022 F-450 with Line-X bed liner. I have the TorkLift tie downs installed and have been keeping an eye out for a used truck camper. I recently located a 2019 AF 1140 and am planning a trip (12hr drive each way) to go pick it up next weekend. I was thinking of getting the 3/4" thick rubber horse mats.

Does anyone have any experience with hauling an Arctic Fox in a newer Ford truck? How much cabover clearance is there? Will a 3/4" thick mat be enough?

If I remember correctly, the Arctic Fox has 4' between the underside of the cab over and the basement floor.

Update - We drove out to Vermont on 5/13 to finalize the purchase of a 2019 AF 1140. Everything went as planned. I had installed (1) layer of 3/4" stall mats and a 3/8" thick bed mat that I had from another truck on top of the stall mats. I ended up having plenty of cab over clearance.

That's good news. I saw a Ford the other day with two bumps near the CHMSL and wondered if they were new style antennas.

I've got a 2020 AF990 camper on a 2018 F350 CC dually with only a 3/8 bed mat and have plenty of clearance. Have traveled thousands of miles on all types of roads without any issues.

You might call ahead and ask the seller to measure from the bottom of the camper to the bottom of the cabover, then you can measure from bed floor to cab roof and compare numbers. I used a pair of 2x10's in the bed and that gave me about 1" over the shark fin on the truck and never had an issue. It was handy because when I took the camper off the truck, I used those same planks on top of cement blocks to store the camper.

Thanks for the link, I'll see if anyone on that group has any input

Occasionally the sharkfin antenna of Ford trucks has poked a hole in the underside of the cabover of an Arctic Fox truck due to lack of clearance.

3/4" should be good, but you might consider checking out this group
