Easy toilet fix

I may have mentioned this somewhere else, but I will again.

My Dometic 310 toilet was leaking, so I decided to try to replace the seal. I'd done all the cleaning, vinegar.. whatever.. but nothing worked. As per the youtube instructions I tried pushing down on it but it just would not come loose. I stopped after several minutes because I feared it would break and drop into the tank.

I wondered if what I did would make a difference, so I put water in it and, lo and behold, it held! Weeks later it's still not leaking a drop.

So.. if your toilet leaks and nothing works, just try pushing down on the seal.

My manual says to use only silicone. I actually found a bottle of Toilet seal lubricant and conditioner made by Thetford and my commmode is a Thetford, so I figured that would be the best. It's working great on my 18 year old rig.

Rubber is petroleum based. As are many silicone items.

I had the seal shift on my toilet and the flange stuck and the lever would not open it. I tried everything I could to dislodge it, but it just didn't work. Later my sister went in there and worked her magic. Pressed down on it while pulling the lever and it released! So I got out my info on the toilet and it says to use a silicone based lubricant and use it regularly to keep that seal working properly. I actually found some actual toilet seal lube at Camping World and used it. I haven't had any trouble with it since.

I have no idea what you were doing to your toilet. It's a ball and flush ball seal combo. The seal is set into a lip. To remove wear a glove it you choose and grab the edge of the seal and pull towards the center of the hole and remove.

Now the seal is removed scrub it til it's clean. Now apply a thin layer of Vaseline to the bottom surface and carefully install with the ball closed by pushing it into place. Once mostly set open the ball and finish pushing the seal into place. Always be careful NOT to drop the seal down the hole!!!

You probably just knocked off some of the crystalized "STUFF" when pushing on the seal.
