I just came into possession of a single axle fifth wheel RV trailer. I'm just now cleaning and repairing for use. I had trou[image]ble with the title but resolved it. The issue seems to be if this is a home made or factory made RV. Title says it is a 1990 home made. However. It is clearly a factory built "Weekender". Licensing person said a pick up camper had wheels put under, single axle, and the fifth wheel attachment added. I don't believe it. Looks to me like a 1990s fifth wheel single axle but probably the smallest ever built. Title says weight is 800 lb. I'll try to post a picture. Does anyone know of a "Weekender" brand of small fifth wheels?

If the title is from the state you live in I'd go up the ladder at DMV. Either DMV or law enforcement signed off on the title. Another loophole is LE knows TCs don't need tags so they might never bother you.
Skyline did make a Weekender 5th wheel back in the day.

If you could post a pic that would be very helpful. I have never heard of a fifth wheel that small, much less one with only a single axle, so I'm inclined to agree with the DMV that this is a home made rig. While it's true that truck campers don't need tags that's only because they ride in the truck bed. Generally speaking, anything with tires that rolls on the road needs tags.

Weekender is a brand of truck camper (here's one) so the camper itself is factory made, what makes it a "home made" is taking a truck camper and converting it into a fifth wheel by putting an axle under it. Whoever had it probably didn't have the right truck to tote it around and by converting it to a 5er with a very light pin weight could pull it around with a small truck like a Ford Ranger.

I would like to see a pic of this trailer. Follow This Link to post pics.

I wonder if there's a market for a trailer designed specifically for this purpose. Could have extended tanks, built-in generator or more batteries.
I would make it a gooseneck.

A 6000lb single axle on a short gooseneck trailer could carry a lot of TC and add-ons

Do a web search for truck camper on a trailer and there's no shortage of innovative ideas. Something like this gooseneck equipment trailer made into a toy hauler:

This is a brand new "CRAWLER/HAULER". built by Ft Worth, Texas United RV Center. United is a standard RV dealer and decided a few years ago that the market here wanted this type cheaper Toy Hauler. AS the pic shows, they remove the drive train from a brand New Trailer and then mount it on the Gooseneck Flat bed Trailer. Doug

Skyline built a 19 and 21 foot weekender 5th wheel in 1990. Both had Dual axles. Doug

I was imagining something more in the line of this

Cut it off where the little girl is standing and locate a single axle under it about where the second side reflector is. Make it small, nimble and high profile to get you where TCs generally wander.

A huge toy hauler kind off defeats the purpose of having a TC in my mind. But them again, so does most any type of trailer
