Don't plan on coming to Alaska on the Alaska-Canadian (Alcan) Highway for the rest of the year... The only road to Alaska open is the Stewart-Cassiar Highway that follows the western Continental Divide up the Rockies and it is rustic.... You can also take the Alaskan Marine Highway from Bellingham, WA to Haines, AK but most sailings are booked. This is the Laird River (Laird Hot Springs) that overshot its banks...and took out the Al-Can...

This says highway has been reopened using old highway as detour. Pilot car operation.

We enjoyed the Cassiar. it is actually quicker and shorter

Cassiar is a good route to see more of British Columbia and Yukon. Can hit parts of lower panhandle of Alaska.
We usually use the Alaska Highway going North and Cassiar southbound.

Some of the Alaska Highway has moved from the original route. The old road is still used by locals. From the article, Highways has opened it up as a detour.
