Another item is the Idle air control valve. AIC
The valve doesn't go bad, but the small passages get clogged.
It is on the side of the throttle body, mounted with two very small screws that break easily.

Can the AIC affect drivability above idle?

A little effect on drivability as it acts like a vacuum leak. Somewhat went away above 2000 RPM. Fuel mileage was down. Close to 1 MPG.
I broke one of the screws. Not equipped to remove broken piece from throttle body. Had throttle body portion and assembly rebuilt for 1-hour cheap labor. Think it was $45.

The Throttle body has a fuel pressure regulator in it and they are known to get weak over time.
They are inexpensive and not too hard to replace.

Since it was acting like a carburetated engine with a bad accelerator pump, I decided to replace the TPS with a new AC/Delco. I haven't driven it yet, but I will soon and report back.

I just took it for a test drive, the new TPS did not resolve the intermittent hesitation issue.

Next, I am going to rebuild the TBI and replace the fuel pressure regulator diaphram. I will report back. Thank you everyone.
