50-amp electrical cable plugs in, the black screw “ring”

On my 5th wheel where the 50-amp electrical cable plugs in, the black screw “ring” connector that holds the cable in place has broken off. Is it possible to replace the ring only and not have to replace the whole connection? I am thinking about just ignoring the problem because it appears that the only function of the ring is to make sure that the cable is not disconnected. Your thoughts on the issue?
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

People actually use that thing? I have never in the 10 years I have had my trailer actually used it.

I won't take the time to research burnt failed RV connections.
But the whole premise of the RV Smartplug is that it is a better, safer connection a more secure connection vs. the standard twist lock plug

In ten years using a 90 degree adapter (from West Marine) I have never tightened the ring; Never has an arc; Never had a scorch; Never had a problem.

P.S. use a Precision Industries EMS upstream EVERY TIME!

It appears he just wants the ring and not the the cover.

He does need to make sure of 30 or 50 amp.

50 Amp. I do not know how to replace the ring only. I will need the replace the complete cover.

Is the ring REALY necessary? How many do not use (tighten) the ring?

ON 50 amp, the pins will lock into place. The ring is just a way to help keep out moisture. Doug

PS, not really needed. That is why you insert and twist

Doug I know you are our resident guru. but I strongly disagree that the ring is not needed. The ring keeps the plug sucure in the socket it keeps the plug tight. When the plug gets loose you get arching , scorching, heat, all symptoms of a bad connection.
The ring keeps the plug tight and secure.

The ring will slip over your plug. You will need to work it some.

The standard straight in twist lock cord body puts strain the the electrical components. The locking ring reduces this stress. A 90 degree adapter reduces the stress and reduces possibility of failure.

Verify the brand of your connector. They are not all the same.
