I don't think we owned a toll-paying transponder with our previous Class C. Now that we're back in one (and loving it!), a question popped into my head: Can the readers "see" or communicate with the transponder in its "proper" location next to the rear-view mirror?

I realize that many toll booths also offer toll-by-plate, but keeping track of that is a PITA.

There is a narrow area from which the scanner can "see" your transponder.

Originally, we placed ours a bit too high on the windshield and it scanned/worked about 75% of the time. A Toll Booth employee suggested we move our unit a two inches lower, no problems since.

Once you find the sweet spot, you should be good to go.

We have our EZ Pass stuck on the windshield behind the rearview mirror and haven't had any problems.

I don't worry about it. If it doesn't register, I get an invoice from the state and pay it then.

On my F-150 it is in the center at the BOTTOM of the windshield, on the DP it is behind the mirror, and on all of my cars it is behind the mirror. With all of those vehicles I have had a problem at the middle toll on the WV turnpike while using the lane which takes both cash or transponder. Has always worked there at the transponder only lane. I guess you roll the dice.

Our I-Pass just sits on the dash at the base of the windshield. Seems to work.
