Heck, police officers have discretion over varying degrees of infractions, certainly the business owner can as well.

I don't want to steer the discussion off course, but we have seen more than enough biased and arbitrary behavior from the police. This can lead to lack of respect for the police and for the laws.

Back to campgrounds, certainly the owner has the right to set the rules and to enforce them or not. In the past I have found that owners who have and enforce reasonable rules are likely to have the best parks that I would want to return to. Behavior of some campers can get out of hand quickly if the owner is not willing to act.

Many years ago a big group of us booked a block of sites at a park in Ventura and booked an empty spot to use as our gathering area. I had originally parked my trailer the wrong direction so that I could face the empty space, but the park host came over and yelled at me and made me turn it around because rules are rules.

I never understood that one. Never saw the harm in it. I assume maybe it has something to do with not wanting the dump hose run underneath the rig, but I didn't even hook mine up (just shore power and fresh water).

They wouldn't budge though. I even re-read through the rules and that wasn't one of them, which means I wasn't technically a rule breaker.

Yes the sewer hose is a big consideration. It is virtually impossible to disconnect and store it without leaving a trail of droppings. But the bigger issue is it puts your door opening on to the neighbors yard. Even if you are traveling with that neighbor and they are fine with it problems may ensue. What happens are other guests see it as a license to park opposite of the site’s design and they take it upon themselves to reposition for various reasons. It might be to gain better views out of their windows or they think they will get better wifi reception. But that does put the entry door in conflict with the neighbors and it gets worse when awnings are extended or pets, children and the like are involved. Never allowing it keeps things simple and trouble-free

That's what I figured, except the drain is often 20-30 feet from my dump valve and I have to use two hoses to reach. I'm always very tidy about dumping, but I get it.

Rules are rules.

Coincidentally, I do vote with my feet and we don't go to that park in Ventura anymore. The management there just isn't to my liking anymore.

On one trip I went into the office when I was checking in and the two women were screaming and running around. I thought they were being robbed, but a bat had come into their store and scared them. I grabbed a plastic to-go clamshell box (for nachos) and scooped the bat into the box and safely relocated it far from their building. The ladies were all charm after that.

The next day I was buying something inside the store and they were their old snotty selves again. I asked them why they were treating me like that and how come they were so nice to me the night before when I "saved them" from the bat. They apologized and said they didn't recognize me and said they would have been nicer if they had known it was me. I suggested that they try being nice to everyone all the time until the customer gives them a reason to treat them otherwise. This broke the spell and they went back to being their snotty selves again.

Some people shouldn't work with the public.

I just don't get people like that. They must have a generally unhappy life, and want to make sure everyone they encounter has an equally unhappy life (or moment in time). I will never understand that behavior.

I've seen campground host/park Rangers approach RV owners (mostly motor homes owners...custom camp vans) who parked in the wrong way due to the fact they didn't follow one way only campground driveway signs/rules.

I'm on the campground hosts or owners side ...they make and should enforce those rules regardless of who you are.
Some we have to many folks who think their some how privileged.... or just plain anti authority types.

Also, on a ocean facing CG, this may be consistent with their tsunami evacuation plan.

Nope. They’re on the other side of the 101 up on a bluff. Not in a tsunami zone. They’re just prickly there.

Some people shouldn't work with the public.

Even if the sewer connection is two hoses away you can “walk” the contents down the hose from the rig to the sewer connection. In all my years of owning parks I never saw a guest crawling under their rig to walk the contents of a sewer hose from on side of the rig to the other.

As for some people not being suited to work with the public, spend enough hours doing it and I would bet everyone would have times they like to strangle a customer or two even knowing it was going to take a lot of time and effort to bury the bodies. The fact they don’t is a testament to their dedication to their job.

I just could not let this go by without a BTDT.

Agreed, but anybody whose default position is to be nasty shouldn't work with the public. Don't take out your problems on me when your beef is with the last guy or the guy before that. Anybody who doesn't have the skills to reset after each transaction should find another field to work in.
