^^^ It’s not posted as fact anywhere as far as I know….. it’s just me thinking it’s pretty tough to compete in a 500 HP/10 speed market with 420 ponies and 6 gears.

"the 2023 Ram is apt to take a big hit in depreciation when the ‘24 comes out with 8 gears and 480 horsepower / 1200 lbft of torque."

You will lose credibility by making these type statements. If you would have said guessing, or if, in that remark, you wouldn't be providing false info.

Yes, you did clear that up, after being confronted.

Jerry

OUCH!!! That even hurt me Jerry!!! [emoticon]

He is actually the one that said the 6 x 6 is just fine and would not make much difference with more gears.

As mentioned WHY in the HE!! change when you have combo's that do the job reliably.

I will repeat, I tow way more weight than most anyone here at 35k combined West Coast and have ZERO reason to want more gears or power. I have owned both trans and I love them both.

Harsh...not intended. Just a tip for a respected member, that many trust to be stating facts, when in this case it wasn't. Good that you asked him!

My opinion...I agree, with the Ram not NEEDING more than a stout 6-speed. I do think similar to others opinions, that since technology continues to advance for Ford/GM, at some point Ram will follow. Right/wrong, it will be considered upgrading the drivetrain and body/frame/styling.[emoticon]

Jerry

I guess I need to be a little more careful with my words. The purpose of the post was actually to let people know that my decision to pass on the '23 Ram was not rooted so much in the Ram not meeting my needs, but rather in my "fear" of being stuck with an antiquated '23 model "if" a newly designed '24 model should come out. As much as I believe the high torque rise of the new HO Cummins means 6 gears are adequate. I do think Ford and GM have raised the expectations new HD truck buyers have, which means Ram will soon need to bring more power and more gears to the table.

I can officially claim "old guy" status...we paid less than that for our first house. 2000sft ranch on 1.5 acres about 15 miles from a midsize city in the midwest. Everything in good condition (aka: not a fixer upper).

Next truck will probably be one of those horrible 6 speed trucks when the current 5 speed gives out but hopefully that's another 4-5yrs.

Ave home price locally is literally x10 of truck price. Drove by a 12 plat home project, sign said from mid $1M range.

Same here on the " Old Guy " I paid $39,700 for my first home newly built ,and if I would have bought shortly after I got married it would of been $21,500 [emoticon] Both 1800 sq ft .

Hard to believe that trucks have doubled in price since I bought my 2014 .

^^^ Wow doubling since 2014 is surprising. I paid 67,500 CAD for my 2016 Platinum and 91,000 CAD for my 2022 Platinum. … So 5% increase per year.

They haven’t doubled. More like less than 50% increase in MSRP.
2014 a loaded to the gills diesel dually was maybe hitting $70k usd msrp. Now they’re just over $100k.

Trucks have not doubled since 2014, or even 2004 for that matter.

LOL. Have you shopped trucks lately? Prices may have not doubled since 2014 (not far off, but they have more than doubled since 2004.

My 2003 RAM 3500 Laramie (top trip at the time) was $35000. A comparable 2023 is around $90,000, with top trim levels above $100k.

Yes saying double was a bit of an exaggeration , but the increase has been pretty significant in the past few years. I gave 57k for a loaded 2014 3500 Laramie . That same truck today is going for pretty close to 90k , so a 33k increase in 9 years or just over $3500 increase per year . Comparing the increase of what I paid for a 99 Superduty 7.3 XLT bought new in July of 98 for 33k to 57k for the 2014 that’s 24k increase in 16 years or $1500 increase per year .
