There was some discussions on these two transmission a while back about them being the same. Here's a tear down video of these two transmissions. Comment at the end states the 10L will be the next 68 so get ready for the work load.

Enjoy...

Weird aboot the 68 thing….since the 10speed “Alli” shifts SOOO much better than a 68….
It’s literally on par with the 1/2 ton 10speeds and ZF 8 speed in that department.
(And the few “old” rwd transmissions like the Alli 1000 and the MB NAG1. )

But if he was referring to reliability, the 68 is pretty decent in that department, good actually.
If only it wasn’t plagued with the shifting abilities of sloth with a concussion. Slow and confused! Lol.
What else is there to judge a trans by? How well it shifts and how long it lasts is all I know.

Ford had some bad torque converters in the gas trucks Completely unnacceptable, but Ford does have a reputation for trans issues on first year trucks for the most part.

Eh, it’s ok. I don’t have the most love for the 68 but I have to watch what I say in case my truck is listening…because she’s running like a champ having cracked 100k miles, including her 68! All 100k been deleted/tuned, with too big of tires and too small of gears.
I would have never intentionally bought a truck with a 68 prior to this one and would not again. But sometimes a deal is a deal and you don’t get everything perfect like you’d want. And the truck deal was not worth passing up due to what is bolted in behind the engine!
