Does anyone have a recommendation for a free sound recorder that will create mp3 files for win 7 home? Thanks in advance.

ITYM "AUDACITY." For convenient and portable recording/digitizing, with line-in or internal or external mics, a $100 Tascam DR-22WL will do a fine job.

Hi,

Thanks for all the suggestions. The win 7 built in recorder doesn't do mp3 unfortunately. I expect I'll use Audacity--will let you know.

Win 7 has a sound recorder. Dunno about mp3 format.

I use something else for VIDEO

NERO is good for copying already recorded stuff But I do not think it has a recorder in it.

Windows has a limited recorder.. Audicity is better.

How I used it last week.
I had a playlist I need to be able to access OFFLINE.. I accessed it with mY Chrome book, Used a patch cable from CB's Headset port to the in on a audio card (USB type I have that works with my Windows box, This external device WILL record in stereo.. Then selected the USB input with Audicity and let it play out.

Then the next day I sliced the big file into lik3 40 wav files which are now resident on my phone's hard card so I can play 'em into the RV's audio system even when I have not internet.

All temp use. they go away April 1

The Songs are ones we are singing in Church from now to Easter.

here is one of them.

Enjoy the song. LISTEN TO THE LYRICS.

Audacity is strictly for audio. I assume you meant audio recordings.

Audacity is an excellent program and is free.

Also check out MP3DirectCut. Another free program.

I use NERO software with Win7. I think there is a free version. Mine was included with my Acer computer. Just finished copying a Elvis Inspirational CD. Pretty simple. Stored on hard drive as MP3. Then copy to thumb drive or SD card or phone.

Audicity. Used it last and this week, Used to be an expensive program as I recall. Not quite as good as Total Recorder (But it is FREE, T.R. has or Had a "Free" version but it was limited)

I used T.R on older computers when I was my Daughter's recording engineer (She is a classical musician) but since she and I now live miles apart (About 1,000) I don't do that so much any more. Still have a nice portable studio though.

Side note: Many computers.. the built in sound card does not accept STEREO Line in and may not accept STEREO mic as well. a 3rd party Sound card MAY accept STEREO.. I have two of those here as well.
