What do you use? I'm looking into Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X Portable RV Surge Protector - 50 Amp ($335 on Amazon).
How much difference is there between the expensive brands and the less expensive brands (Portable Surge Guard Protectors, 50 amp - $78)?

Ohh, I have an article for this:
What surge protector is best for my RV?
Hint, it's an EMS not a surge protector.

I have a Progressive Industries EMS-PT30X This is the second season with it and so far I'm very pleased with it.
Prior to this I had a TRC 30AMP Surge Guard for 9 years. Never died just did not trust it any longer and towards the end it was not reactive to low voltage. I had to replace the plug on it once and it's a sealed unit that TRC will not touch. Tough separating it since it is screwed and sealed with silicone but once inside it was easy to replace the 30 amp cord and plug. The progressive unit would be much easier to service.
My vote is on the Progressive unit.

Progressive Industries EMS, either portable or hard-mounted.
Hard mounting inside the RV is long term easiest. No loss, theft or forgetting to attach/detach issues.

I can tell you from personal experience the customer service at Progressive Industries is top notch. Had a minor issue with a 30 amp unit and they sent new parts out fast and gave advise on how to best install them.

Go whole hog or measure before you plug in for 50 amp service.
