On 18 Dec, a very large cat showed up at our house. It was late and cold, and he looked in the door and made it clear he wanted inside. Well, since we have two cats already and he was a stranger, we could not let him in the house. WLToo walked out and the cat ran to him, so he walked the cat into the garage and into the climate controlled room out there. He was extremely hungry and thirsty, but in otherwise good condition and very clean. We fixed up a bed for him, set up the feeding and elimination stations, and went to bed. Next day, we worked in the garage all day, while the big guy slept or supervised. We found him to be an intact male, no sign he's ever worn a collar, and he has a strong need to be in the general vicinity of humans. For an intact male, he's remarkably mellow - I don't think he was the alpha cat in his previous home. Have had zero responses to the "found cat" notices around the area and online, so we'll be working with the local rescues to get him neutered and all his shots, then find him a home. We can't keep him because he's just too big for our two cats to share our small house. Alex would have another emotional meltdown, and I don't want to go through that mess again (long, ugly story). For now, we're calling him Spot, not that he answers to it (does answer to "Kitty, Kitty"). No idea how he travels; we'll find out when we take him to the vet on Tuesday. If anyone knows of someone who would like a large (about 15-18 pounds) cat who needs to be with people, please let me know. No cat novices, please; this cat needs someone who knows exactly how to handle an adult cat of this size, especially when he's feeling frisky. A few months ago we switched our 8 year old lab to fresh pet dog food. What a difference. She ate dry Iams before and was starting to get itchy scabby spots. Now that is all cleared up and he’s coat Is shiny and she is no longer plump. Lol Anyway, when we leave in our motorhome for a couple months I’m thinking it may not be easy to keep enough of that fresh dog food in the refrigerator. I would like to know if anyone is using CBD oil for anxiety in their dog. There is a vet, Dr. Michael Fox, that has a column in our Sunday paper that suggested it. I talked to my vet and they do offer it. In fact her mother is using it for her dog and it is working for her. We are now using ElleVet, cbd oil, and it does seem to help him. But wondering about long term use. Just a fyi, he is a rescue and have no idea his background, except to know he was found in a crate in the woods. He has been with us for 2 years now and is blind. Hey Guys, Hoping for some brainstorming! 3 senior dogs 2 adults/ 2 kids 4 bikes Dispersed camping (gas cans, water cans, cooler) What are your setups for the pups and bikes attached to the truck? Prior theft issues have made us adamant about not storing on back of travel trailer. 2500 Silverado with apex nano 208bhs Tongue weight has us leaning against a tongue mount for bikes Thought of these 3setups: 1. Hard shell, 3 gunner crates run length of bed, with cans on the other side. Bikes attached to front end of truck 2. Soft shell with rack cage. 3 gunner crates run length of bed, cans attach to rack system, bikes attach to rack system above truck 3. No shell, bike racks across width of the bed. 3 gunner crates run length of bed with some form of inclement weather covering if needed. Are there other options to consider? We have a Maltese-Yorkshire Terrier Mix that we rescued 10 years ago. Weighs 10 lbs and is 12 years old. In the past we have given her the Lyme Vaccine. She has always had a negative reaction to this vaccine. Here last shot was in 2020 when the reaction was some what more more severe. For 2 days she slept most of the time, limping while walking (Only out to do here business--no extended walks), crying when we picked her up, difficulty eating and drinking, etc. Our Vet is telling us the current (new) Vaccine has less side effects and is encouraging us to give her the Vaccine again but we are reluctant because of our concern with past experience. We live in northern Virginia just outside Washington DC and have deer and other wild animals in the neighborhood, we like to camp in VA State parks, and understand that Lyme Disease is very bad. Yesterday I brought home two Anatolian Shepherds that came from a large sheep farm. 6yo Duke He is taller and longer than Wendy was.
