How much do I offer for a brand new 2017 Ram 2500 Diesel?

I've been looking for a new Tow Vehicle for a while now. We'd like to buy 2600RB, but we need a new TV first. Unfortunately I absolutely hate, Hate, HATE buying a new vehicle. I despise the whole "car sales" process, but I do like look at new vehicles....alone. So I'll often wonder through the local dealerships parking lots looking at the new vehicles by my self and only after I see something interesting or know exactly what I want, will I go inside the dealership and solicit a sales person. Anyway, I was in the local RAM dealership lot the other day and I stumbled across a brand new 2017 RAM 2500 Diesel Long Horn addition pickup truck buried in close to 100 misc 1500's. The truck was open, so I got into it. It was nicely equipped truck with lots of bells and whistles, but I wasn't too fond of the look of the two tone (tan and brown) interior, but the leather bucket seats were comfortable. The window sticker was missing, so I went inside the dealership and to see a salesmen. Well he didn't even know that that truck was out there and he couldn't tell me anything about it. It seemed like they literally had lost the truck in there own yard. He took my contact info, then two days later he emailed me a copy of the window sticker and the MSRP was just over $70,000. So my question is this.... What do you think I should offer for the truck? Basically it's a new truck with no mileage on it, but its also been sitting on the lot for at least year and half, maybe two. So its technically not a new truck, heck the 2019s will be arriving real soon. So I'm not sure what to offer or it.

Thoughts???

"Also Ram is offering an extra incentive for the diesel and I'm told that diesel trucks hold their valve better."

YUP!!! I paid 15k this last Summer for this one owner 123k Sport. Gasser would be 1/2 the price.

There' really nothing cost effective about RV'ing. RV's depreciate at an alarming rate. Storage runs on average depending on size $50 month=$600 year=5 years $3000. RV's after 5 years -50%
Poor MPG's while towing. Trucks depreciate as well. Maintenance on both. Unless you are full timing then RV'ing needs to be looked at as a hobby, same as ATV'ing, boating, etc.
It boils down to your fun to money loss ratio level.

I agree it's probably not, but I typically keep my vehicles a long time and it will allow us the ability to upgrade the trailer if we want down the road. We also plan on taking really long trips out west and we figured we can use the power. Also Ram is offering an extra incentive for the diesel and I'm told that diesel trucks hold their valve better.

If you plan on keeping a long time and upgrading the trailer later, strongly recommend you go to 3500 SRW.

I do see you are from Long Island NY, so there may be other issues for not buying a 3500!

X2!

We don't need a 3500 DRW to tow/carry our 12,500#, 5er, But what if we find a 16,000# to 18,000# 5er we like in a couple years??

Well look at this way, you would be better off with a 3500 SRW than a 2500 diesel.

So true!!!

Stop looking at 2500 diesels, look at 3500 SRW more payload on the Yellow sticker. You can future proof yourself.

I thought an update was in order. Well the local dealer is standing firm on $60,695 for the 2017 Laramie Longhorn....so I've moved on.

If I have to pay approximately $60K (hopefully less) for a truck, I'd rather by one that's not been sitting around 2 years. So right now I'm working with a another dealer, just a little further away and I'm seriously considering purchasing one of his 2018 Diesel 2500 Laramies. I considered waiting for the 2019 but I'm always leery about purchasing a new revamped model and I figured that they'd be getting top dollar for them, but they sure look nice!

Find several sitting on the dealer lots you might be interested in. Walk in on January 31, and make a ridiculous offer. When they refuse, write down your name and number on a piece of paper, hand it to them and walk out the door. Go to the next dealer. One of them will be desperate for one more sale for the month.

I purchased a "new" 2002 Explorer in 2005 with a sticker of 33,500 for just under 19K + TT&L. Of course it had demo miles on it, but the warranty started the day I purchased, and was an awesome vehicle. So good in fact, it is still in the family.

I have always regarded this purchase as the best car deal I ever did.
