Well in Florence,OR there is still an original A&W and enjoying an A&W Root Beer in a frosted mug from the window tray is still very enjoyable!
In a can A&W is ok, but love the bite of Barq's.

I am also a root beer fan. In the past a big A&W fan, but only at the old school A&W drive ups. Those truly were the days. One of the last places....I was told that actually brew their A&W Root Beer in California was in Oakhurst near Bass Lake. Their brew was truly amazing and creamy. Since then all is really lost when it comes to getting a "draft out of the spout" other than the occasional beer brewery that does some root beer too. Those are usually real fun. For me, as far as over the counter root beer, Virgil's is at the top, then it just becomes a matter of taste and availability where you are. Mrs. Stewarts is good, Barque's is good. Henry Weinhardt's is good. There are a lot of small batch brewers Like Death Valley Brewing.....But I think if you really want to try what I think Root Beer was originally supposed to taste like...Try Virgil's

One mug is never enough. One mug to start a great burger and another and...
A great root beer without enough carbonation and cold can be syrupy.
The new not Coca Cola Corporation can't abide, now lots of of water and little to no carbonization.

Growing up, Mug was always my favorite and A&W not so much. As an adult, Henry Weinhardt's by far the best.

We still have the old A&W drive in near us and they still do the draft root beer of my youth. I've gone to the box A&W "restaurants" and it is not the same.

Just ordered the Zatarains root beer concentrate. Most of the "sugar-free" concentrates out there actually contain sucralose or maltodextrin, which are not recommended for diabetics.
I love, love, love root beer, and I'm looking forward to making my own.

I wonder why soft drink manufacturers don't use Monk Fruit Sweetener for Diet Sodas. From what I hear Monk Fruit Sweetener has zero calories, doesn't spike your glucose and other wise can be used in place of sugar. Has much better flavor than stevia and others. In reality I can't really tell the difference.
