Camping near water in AZ

The wife and I moved to southern Arizona a couple of years ago. We left the rainy Northwest for a drier climate and found it south of Tucson. However we are missing the water that was plentiful in the Northwest. We would like to find rv camping next to a lake that can accommodate our 40 foot fifth wheel. We know about Patagonia State park and Parker Canyon. What are good choices around the Phoenix area that is accessible? Thank you.

Lakes/Rivers/Streams/Creeks: Prescott, Phoenix, Sedona, Cottonwood, lots of water on the Rim between Payson & Eagar for summer; near Patagonia is Pena Blanca and Arivaca Lakes and of course, all along the Colorado River, Alamo Lake St. Park

Just have to wait for the "big one" when California slides off into the Pacific and there will be plenty of waterfront in Arizona. (sorry couldn't resist).

As others have mentioned, look at the rivers and reservoirs.

We've been thru Arizona a few times and after a week or two, the brown gets on my nerves. It won't stop us from visiting for short periods but for longer periods, we found the Texas coast better. Lots of water, lots of green and still mostly dry. To a large degree, the further inland you move, the dryer it gets.

Just curious, are you in or near Green Valley AZ? I'm looking for at least a winter home there, if not a full time residence.

I have several friends who live part time to full time in Green Valley/Sahuarita and one near Vail.

Thanks!

Roper Lake in Safford has a nice campground. Not a huge lake but itโ€™s nice.

Lyman Lake State Park, over on the east side, off 180.
or
There are three nice state parks on the west, on the Colorado River, between Parker and Lake Havasu City.
Buckskin Mountain, River Island, and Cattail Cove.
All of these are on the river or lake.
But I'm sure you need to reserve them, especially the Colorado River ones.
