spent a weekend up in big bear,ca w/out the trailer and took one route up and another one down to redlands, but wondering what would be the easiest route with the 24 foot trailer. haven't tried the victorville route.

Gems world is right. I worked Big Bear for 12 years with CHP. Do not use 18 up from Lucerne Valley. It is the steepest state highway in CA. and has two BAD switchbacks.

38 is the route with an RV.

If you want to take your sweet time and have to deal with less traffic, go the back side and use Hwy 38. If you want the quickest route, go up Hwy 330 and then catch Hwy 18 in Running Springs. Be prepared to deal with impatient drivers.

I would not try the Victorville route. It is even steeper in places than the other routes. But it is a little shorter. Personally, I would use the Redlands route.
