Greetings all,

Is Los Algadones in Yuma one of the better/safer crossings into Mexico? I noticed the huge parking area to allow a walk-across; that seems like a bonus.

Thanks

The crossing nearest Yuma, AZ, is San Luis. But going west on Hwy 8 from Yuma, you can reach Los Algondones in Mexico, the other side of the border with California. San Luis sees a flood of Mexican nationals cross into Arizona where a hundred thousand acres of vegetables grows year around, farmed by 25 thousand living in Arizona and another 25 thousand that come across the border to help with the work, almost on a daily basis. When the high heat of summer rolls around, they will grow cotton.

Lots of store front busineses offer the usual dental, eyeglass, medical and pharmacy items at a much discounted price, that comes with very fast service. Kiosks have a lot that comes north from the Mexican hinterland, with a few Chinese items included, as well. Get a haircut, a good lunch, and a have good time when some music starts up.

Yes, it is, been going there for decades. We don't go to US dentists. The last US dentist that we went to, an endodontist, did shoddy work, then wouldn't stand behind it. Our dentist is in Algodones, even for twice yearly clean and checks. Both DW and I have had major dental work done there, at a fraction of the cost in the US, and the work was quality. Our Mexico dentist's equipment was more up to date than the dentist we used to go to in the US. We also sometimes pick up some meds there at a pharmacy.

Sometimes we park on the US side and walk in, and sometimes we drive in, as our dentist has covered parking.

We always used to start our trips with a stroll across to Algodones to get a fill of great tacos, two bottles of our favorite tequila and our paperwork. Occasionally for veterinary products, too. Haven't been there in a bit, but still have the moho pull toward the exit as we go by!

Absolutely. If you're going for dental and concerned there are many dentists that will have someone meet you at the crossing to escort you. Just ask.
