A good place to stay if you're ready to do so is Crystal Crane Hot Springs RV at Crane, Oregon near Burns. It's good if you're planning on touring Malheur Nat'l Wildlife Refuge.

We also have towed this route. Time is the only issue but we knew that and had a nice time . We were in late September.

We did that drive this year with the coach, there are a couple switchbacks that will get your attention but its doable, take your time in the Malhure national park. It's worth the drive.

We have friends in John Day and go there about every other year and find 395 a very good road. We have a MH but have seen many 5th wheels on the road.

It's quite a nice drive. No problem. I stayed free in the forest service hdqts parking lot in John Day.
