There are really only two real do must do's...drive carefully, watching for the frost heaves and the rubble. (the frost heaves can wreck a trailer/5th wheel). Don't rush...speed will cause damage, big time.

Don't do the trip on a short time schedule. There are no interstates up there and many of the roads are not paved. Time to drive distances become difficult to plan.

Being in Indiana that trip could easily consume May, June, July, August and September. Or, you could do it in 6 weeks..but you won't be happy.

Enjoy your trip. We've been up 7 times and will go again in 2018. Do a search for info that has been posted here on traveling to Alaska. North of Whitehorse be careful of the frost heaves. Flags, cones and wavy lines are a clue, so just slow down. Take plenty of time to see what you need, and don't be afraid to boondock in the many places available along the roads in northern Canada as well as in Alaska. The sightseeing is gorgeous, the fishing unbelievable, and the Alaskans are super friendly. Enjoy!

First off this is not the proper forum for travel info.

Secoond, I don't think going to AK is any different than going across country, plan carefully and drive according to road and traffic conditions.

It was the trip we dreamed of since our teens and it fulfilled all our fantasies.

Don't over plan and do stop often to smell the wilderness.

Howdy!

It’s been ten years since our last trip and we plan to return this years. The one thing I can say for sure is when the roads get ruff slow down. The last place you want to have a breakdown is up there. Very little places or resources to make repairs. Take your time enjoy the adventure.

It's a marathon not sprint. Just because 18 wheelers and big class As can do 80mph on the Alcan, it's much easier to take it between slow and very slow with a trailer, especially west of Whitehorse. Those frost heaves can send your trailer flying.

Watch out for ruffians, hooligans, no goods, desperados and bandits.
