State fair grounds are a good option that can be inexpensive. We stayed at a few, including the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh North Carolina. It is a very big complex. There was a dog show on when we were there. We stayed to go to a hockey game. It was walking distance to the arena stadium.

You are not saying what part of NC you are planning to visit. Try a State Park or National Park. We are near Emerald Isle and the cheapest here is Croatan National Camp ground in Cape Carteret. But it is over $25.

Yes, it's a nice find, Chris! I'll just add that with our Senior Access pass, we stay on full hookup sites at Lake Powhatan Recreation Area in the Pisgah National Forest near Asheville for about $22/night. They also have no hookup sites that are under $22 for all...
