Never have balanced our trailers tires. Never have noticed any odd wear either. I guess if I didn't mount them myself I'd spring for the extra balancing fee. If your having a shop do it just have them balanced.

Discount Tire in Burlington gave me the absolute best service at a tire shop Iโ€™ve ever had by far. In and out in an hour with 4 new BF Goodrich Commercial T/Aโ€™s, balanced and dressed perfectly for a great price on my last fiver. I was totally impressed.

I'm happy...my tires and trailers are happy. I get 40k-55k miles a set. Tires wear even across the tread with no cupping.

What is your reasons for not balancing?

We have a total of 4 trailers, including a small, single axle utility trailer.....all have balanced tires! Non-balanced tires, put a lot of unnecessary abuse on the suspension components....as well as creating excessive tire wear! Out of balance tires also transmits additional shock to the camper....potentially shortening itโ€™s life expectancy! Balanced tires, simply makes makes life better for the entire camper!

I've had brake drums out of balance so bad that it took an additional 5.5 oz at the wheel rim to bring the rotating assembly into balance. You may improve the balance or make it worse depending on the balance and accuracy of the cheap brake drum. I balance the rotating assembly. Unless you check the entire assembly, it is just a feel good thing and gives folks a chance to talk about it.

If it's recommended to balance car tires, I cannot for the life of me understand someone suggesting it's not needed on trailer tires.

Balance them.

Your shop isn't exactly wrong. Balancing is for better handling and consistent road contact. Which isn't a big deal on a trailer. But it is still worth doing it to reduce wear on suspension components and reduce vibration in your living space. On some trailers we wouldn't care about those things, but on an RV, we do.

I balance mine, just be aware that many, (most?) trailer tires are lug centric and not hub-centric. So they will have to be able to balance them with the lugs and not the hub. Many car tire places don't have the adaptor to do that.
