Adding solar watts

My motorhome has two approx 30" by 40" panels sitting flat on the roof. My charge controller regulates things pretty nicely for short week long trips unplugged from ac power. I've never been more than a week away so nervous about our plans to spend 2 months in Arizona. Dry camping.
My thinking is to purchase portable kit that I can point more to the sun and add watts to my system.
Question: the portable kit has its own charge controller. Can I alligator clip it directly to the battery bank without going through the existing roof system?

Yes just clip it on, no problem, no fighting

I would be more inclined to add panels on the roof
Won't have to move inside the RV, when I'm gone, to avoid thief

Yes you can. But why not just add another panel to the roof? How many batteries do you have?

We boondocked over 100 days this winter in Arizona, our solar system works great for us.

Maybe. The two charge controllers may fight each other.
