AWNING PROBLEMS

We just brought our 36 ft GeorgieBoy out of storage for the first time of the season. One of the first things we do is check out the awning.
We put the awning down and all was well. Once we tried to retract it we found there was no tension and it would not retract on its own. Ours is manual not electric. The awning is a Carefree of Colorado. Anyone have a clue what might be wrong as to why it won't retract.
Thanks.

To retract, you hang on to the Strap, and then release the lever on the end of the awning roll and it should start to retract as you let up on the strap tension. Is this what you tried?

If you're REALLY HANDY and VERY CAREFUL you can change the springs. Aftermarket springs cost around $75.00. You need 2-3 people. A You Tube Video will show you how to do it.... I've replaced 3 sets over the years without a problem.

One or both of the tension springs have broken. Even if only one has broken, it is a good idea to replace both at the same time.
Check to see if there is a mobile RV repair service that can come to you to do the repair. Figure the cost at somewhere around $300.

Did you feel tension when you extended it?

When you flipped the lock lever on end of roller was there resistance or did it flip really, really easy?
Is it time for your medication or mine?
