Las Vegas parking - changes?

Word today that MGM Grand will be charging for parking- the first casino to do so.

The County supports this move ( as they'll get tax revenue from a new source) it will be seen as to whether the other casino groups ( there are really only a few owners of all the casinos) will follow suit.

Gaming revenues have really dropped in LV, so they have tried to make it up other ways. higher room fees, more expensive meals 'resort fees" etc.

I don't know about you, but if I get a courtesy such as parking from a property I am more likely to spend there too.

partial list of MGM casinos who may also adopt this policy

BELLAGIO, ARIA, VDARA, MGM GRAND, The Signature at MGM Grand® MANDALAY BAY, DELANO, LAS VEGAS
THE MIRAGE, MONTE CARLO, NEW YORK-NEW YORK, LUXOR, EXCALIBUR, CIRCUS CIRCUS LAS VEGAS

10 bucks is still cheaper than a hotel or campsite spot. I would pay it.

Today's paper says that all MGM properties will see these charges introduced with the exception of the MGM Signature condos and Circus Circus.

Should there be little push-back, expect to see these introduced at the other Casino groups as well.

This "benefit" has kept the RVers coming and spending, just as easy to bypass a night in Vegas between the Grand Canyon and the Coast.

I only go to LV for work ( so hotels) and I don't gamble at all, so this would have little to no effect on me.

The last two times we were on the Las Vegas Strip we didn't drop as much as a quarter into a slot machine. I can understand their concern because I am tired of the food as well. Buffets are no longer an attractive bargain. We stayed free overnight in the Excalibur open parking lot with about a half dozen other RVs last year. Since we boondocked 133 nights (88%) last year I would pay $10 if they charged for the adjacent convenience.

The absolute best argument as to why they are looking for additional sources of revenue. Las Vegas does not exist on people looking at the scenery.

I don't disagree with you at all. Most all parking on the strip is free and I did partake of their restaurants and shopping. If they were to excessively charge me then I would not go there at all. It is that simple--value for value received.

Parking fee also has a lot to do when another casino have big events and people park at other casinos parking lot when the other is full, they loose business when the parking lot is full from people parking and not using the casino..

As a local I will tell you its no longer cheap here in Vegas anymore, eating on the strip cost a lot now days, the cheap Vegas days are gone..

Vegas is a 'one time adventure' for me........and I have been there twice.

Once when it was on the strip and once after all the new was built.

Same old lights/glitz/noise and fake settings. I only have to drive 6 miles for the same.
Never saw the draw....nor enjoyed the hype.

$10 overnight self parking fee for parking on their property ........they must really be hurting for revenue

Those that go will stamp their feet........3 mos from now it will be old news.
