I can't zoom in well enough to see if it's a M38 or a civilian CJ-3A.

I think CJ's had a rounded fender. This one's flat.

Galillions on surplus sales after WW2 and Korea.

Ya the CJs were round, but so were the M38A1 in 52, so this could be either the M38 or CJ-3A. The CJ-3B was flat too, but I think they had the tall hood for the overhead valve engine.

Funny thing is - flat is back! Many kits out there to make "flatties" out of the new jeeps. Have been thinking about it for my 97.

I was in US Army in Europe, 1961 to 1963. Our Battalion had M38's until 1962 when we got M38A1's. In 1963 we got the M151 with the magnesium wheels.

My particular M38 was made in 1943! It refused to die. Probably due to good maintenance.

And back then you could apparently tow it full of people! 🙂

Did that change?? Dang, now I'm going to have to let the wife and kids ride in the MH.

They had 8 children.
It would be too much distraction to have them all inside the coach while driving.

Very cool, I would have loved to have toured that coach. With the Jeep toad, I'm sure he and I would have been fast friends.

Thanks for the Clicky Turbo! I can see the picture now! Very nice old RV & Jeep!

Schilling was quite the personality, apparently. After studying engineering at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, he returned to his father's farm and began inventing, starting with an electric fence and moving on to automatic milkers.

He sounds like our MEXICOWANDERER!

Maybe the Jeep was one of the 'engines at both ends?'

It would be cool if it was found in a barn, and restored.

4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.
