DIRECT TV Std. Def.

I have a old Moto-Stat. "Freedom" dome antenna in standard def. I have heard that in 2019 Direct will no longer support std. def. Exactly what does this mean. Will my antenna continue to receive signal or will the screen go blank? Will Direct inform those std. def. customers if, and when these changes will occur? Would appreciate any updates.

DirecTV was doing free upgrades of SD equipment to HD equipment. I upgraded both receivers in the MH to HD receivers. Still work fine with the dome and receive all the SD channels. When they go away, will see what happens. For DISH, my dome will look at any of the three satellites but only one at a time. Called the dome manufacturer and they said that they MIGHT be able to replicate that operation for DTV, but nothing is in development yet. They are waiting to see what DTV does as well. Worst case, I just buy a Traveler and put it on the roof where the dome was.

They will not be able to duplicate what a dome can do with DISH for DirecTV. DISH uses only KU signals from all of their satellites so the dome can pick up the signal from any of their satellites. DirecTV uses both KU and KA band signals. The domes cannot receive signal broadcast on the KA band. Only the 101 (110, 119...not used) satellite(s) with DirecTV broadcasts on KU.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

I guess I understand the confusion now.:B
I got this from their twitter @DIRECTVNow help id.

"Hey. The phase-outs of SD programming will occur on a rolling basis market-by-market to provide the best customer experience. The sunsets of MPEG-2 signal for SD local programming will not occur for initial markets until quarter #2 of 2019 at the earliest and the MPEG-2 SD signal sunset for national programming is targeted to occur in the first half of 2021. If you have old equipment you can contact us so you can get the latest out there available for DirecTV costumer and not miss out on your TV programming. Glad to be of service. ^Social Media Specialist."

So, there you have it.:S

To receive ANY DTV programming when the end of SD programming happens you will need to upgrade your DTV receiver to a HD receiver is you are not already currently using one. The dome will work just as it has in the past but now it will receive the DTV programming in HD (just like DISH). Where the problem exists is that no one knows exactly what programming will be broadcast from the 101 satellite which is the only satellite the dome can receive. Until that is known we can't really know how useful a dome will be with DTV in the near future.

I can't say that I called them but after reading this here I went over to the AT&T/DirectTV Web site, my own personal portal, and made an inquiry. Of course I've been hearing that Standard Sat Service is all but ended which for the RV means upgrading at some point to another means. Anyways, this question had been posed before and it appears the answers on the site are member generated....but no one has corrected the statement I read. April of 2019 was the date indicated??? I'm sure this is still up in the air as to the exact date...but it does seem inevitable!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but DISH is also going to do away with Standard Def at some point? What does that mean for the in motion dishes/domes? Once again...is there a in motion HD?? After 30 years with Direct, I'm swaying toward DISH, but its still a wait and see! With the way the Data market is going, we may all be streaming soon?

Has anyone actually called them, DTV, to ask what it means?
Might be worth dropping a dime.
Or send their customer service "contact us" an email question.

Nobody's really sure. Google finds a lot of info, but until we hear from DTV itself, not clear.

At&T has not said it is doing away with STD. I am retired from them and I have a wait and see attitude

No one really knows for sure, but your receiver should just not find any channels to display. It will appear to be working correctly, but there are no channels found.
