Camco Ven Geri GENERATOR EXHAUST EXTENSION KIT

$133.00 for this kit.
I need to know what happens when it rains hard using the generator?
Has anyone owned one of these that would know?
Does the water settle in the elbow of the main exaust pipe?
Drilling a hole to let rain drain seems to defeat the purpose.
Could I use a 90 degree at the top?

I don't think people understood your intention.

DO not cover the pipe with the cap someone suggested

What happens. Rain nearly never falls Straight down (If ever) as it always has some wind in the mix so the pipe is what 10-12 feet the rain entering the pipe hits the inner surface of the pipe and follows it down. when it gets to the bottom of the big black pipe there is nothing to push it up and into the generator metal pipe so it drops to the ground. No problem.

And if the genny is running that elbow is over 220 degrees so steam results, not damage.
Home was where I park it. but alas the.

I assume you're joking since that would likely destroy the effectiveness of the GenTuri. The exhaust pressure drops pretty low when the hot gas expands from the smaller exhaust pipe to the larger plastic riser tube. The exhaust heat causes the exhaust/air mixture to travel up the tube with minimal pressure. The cap would likely just cause most of the hot exhaust to exit at the open bottom of the larger tube.

Just to add to what others have already said. Rain drops very seldom fall exactly straight down. In addition, the plastic sections of the GenTuri are not likely to be exactly vertical. Because of these factors, nearly all rain drops entering the top of the VenTuri will strike the wall of the plastic pipe before reaching the bottom, then run down the inside to the pipe and drip onto the ground at the air gap.

Not a GenTuri issue as it draws air in at the elbow for cooling, hence water can drain. There might be some exposure to water in the exhaust pipe but I don't think it can get into the gen engine. I can check in about 2 weeks.

I've used a GenTuri for years including during a couple of very heavy tropical storms. The generator continued operating normally and any small amount of rain that entered the exhaust elbow was either blown back out or dried by the hot exhaust. No drain hole needed.

The water will pass through and drop to the ground since there is no closure between the genturi and the exhaust pipe.

Well for one thing, the heat from the genny evaporates the little water that MIGHT get in.

Have had mine for 20 years and still works great, rain or shine!

Much to do about nothing. How much water do you think enters the pipe?
There is not a solid connection between venturi piping and exhaust pipe, there is an air gap between the two.
The negligible amout of water entering from the top will simply drain at the bottom
