Is 70 the age to stop towing

I think maybe if you drive a motorhome at 70 you are safe, but pulling anything behind it is not safe.

I figured Dad would tow his trailer until he was 90 or more, but he sold it this year (89). Said he had been all the places he wanted to go, too much work otherwise. His sister has a 6 bedroom house and she is alone, so when he visits he can have his own bedroom..

We figured he was done towing a couple years ago, but did not want to admit it. He went out a couple times per year, always something not working right.. he was tired of it.

Never gave it a thought on the age thing. Looking forward to the trip. Most likely be a three plus month trip. Leaving early June, planning on returning sometime in Sept.

Gee after 10 hours on the road today I had a double martini once we set up. At 72 I guess I get a little tired after my drive................ gee maybe I should take a nap................. nah, Let's go into the casino!!!!!

well the trip is on. WE leave for Findlay 10/17 arriving at Dan and Lori's on the 18th of November. Planning THanksgiving in OHio is a first for us. Planning on staying a week with them befoe heading back home. Our first night we will stop in Wytheville, Va and then make it to Dan and Lori's the next day the 18th. Lookibg forward to the trip, hope the weather is good for us. Don;t want any ice or snow either while traveling or while we are there. Our camper isn;t a four season camper so teh Ohio winter could prove to be hard for us, anyway we'll see.

I will be 79 years old in April. I feel fine and just had a good check up with my physical body doctor and eye doctor. Had surgery on my one good eye Tuesday and was given an okay for driving on both counts. I feel great and our last outing was one hundred seventy miles one way over the Smoky mountains on interstate 40 last October 14th. Wife said I did great both going and coming home. We are about to leave on a trip to Findlay Ohio in two weeks. I really feel okay about driving and feel safe behind the wheel, unless someone tells me different and unless I get caught in a crash I will continue to drive the big rig with the f250 diesel with ease. WE plan to go to Wytheville, Va. and then on to Findlay the next day. breaking the trip into two days instead of making it a one day trip. The first day is about 135 miles the second day is about four hundred miles. Maybe we just might meet you on the road between Wytheville and Findlay.

There's a number of us out here who are "elder" senior citizens, like in two months I will be 80. My mind is still good IMO. I still want to be hitting the road, after all there's always one more person to meet, one more thing to see, and one more fish to catch. Will do. I will get to it as soon as I can. We had 2 moose out there today. Mom and her last year's young one. Last summer sand hill cranes by the dozen. Pets are frowned upon here, so we try to coddle the wildlife.

My Grandfather said the same thing in his 90s. A man in his 50s suddenly died and My Grandfather said "why him why not me, my wife and all of my friends are gone, he had a lot left to live for".

As I was writing my last post, one of our resident bald eagles came to visit. She (we think) is munching on something near the tree outside our door. In winter we seem to have a whole flock hang around. I wish I could figure out how to do pictures. When I do I can post the one I took of her.

My hubby and I are always checking each other out. The passenger has the duty to spot bumps and holes and to spot new speed limits, act as navigator as well as look for other traffic hazards.

One thing that we both did before our trip this summer was to have physicals and eye exams. I had cataract surgery and enjoy much improved vision. Night driving is my job because my DH hates driving at night.


We also take it much easier than we did when younger. 500 mile days are notw 200 to 400 miles depending on what there is to see.

I figure if you are unsafe at 69y/o you'll still be unsafe at 70.

We are 73 and usually are the youngsters around the campfire.

We also split the driving about 60/40 and I have to fight for every minute of my 40%. Yep, she loves to drive.
