You And the Family are evacuating, ( for whatever reason ) Work, fuel shortage, whatever you are late leaving, now you are in the biggest traffic jam of your life. As you sit in bumper to bumper traffic some one comes to you and asked can my little Johny use your rest room. You know if you say Yes they are the first of around 50 or more. So what do you do ???

Yes, but I doubt most people are thinking "we need a pee funnel in case we get stuck in traffic" when they are preparing to evacuate an area. ๐Ÿ™‚

they also make a gadget filled with absorbent material, that takes the urine into it a powder of some sort that might be labeled for air plane emergencies could toss one of those into the car at all times.

Where exactly was your friend during this time? He didn't notice people walking into his RV with basketballs, bags, etc.?

While I would let someone use my bathroom, I certainly wouldn't just open it up and let folks wander through unescorted.

Wish I knew myself. I wasn't there... I only know that those were the results of allowing one's RV to become a public restroom. In any case, even if that story was a tad exaggerated, it definitely made me reconsider allowing strangers to use facilities outside of an obvious emergency.

I think there's a big difference between opening it up as a public restroom and allowing someone to use it in an emergency.

Sounds like your friend opened it up as a public restroom.

I would be more likely to let a woman use my bathroom than a man. Just because a man can pee without much exposure. For a woman, you can't just pee out the fly - you have to pull down your pants.

I'm curious how one could jam a deflated basket ball down a rV toilet.
and if he didn't check the room and tank fill after each user, well as old what's his name sez, "you can't fix stupid".

My two centavos:

If it is an emergency, that is one thing. Otherwise, here is a case of what happened to a friend of mine when he allowed people to use the bathroom in his rig during a wreck-caused traffic jam:

  • First, it was 1-2 people, someone used the preggers excuse. Then, it became a line.
  • The requests for a bathroom became demands, with people saying, "you let them in, why not us?"
  • The black tank wound up full, but people kept using it anyway, even when stuff was at their feet. Since the bathroom sink was plumbed to the black tank, it only made it bubble up.
  • People finally stopped demanding their way in when the entire trailer smelled like sewer.
  • Stuff in the bathroom and other places of the rig mysteriously vanished, be it an electric shaver, smartphone chargers, and other items.
  • The bathroom had damage to it, be it someone sitting on the sink, or the doorknob smashed into the wall.
  • The black tank was clogged because plastic bags were tossed in there, as well as maxi pads, "flushable" (hah!) toilet wipes, paper towels, and other stuff.

Total repairs needed to make the trailer habitable again? Was in the thousands, especially due to the black water on the floor, but furniture had to be fixed, the black tank had to be dropped and replaced (as the pump truck couldn't dislodge some of the harder plastic items like a large plastic disc and a deflated basketball that were in the tank). Then, there were the items stolen.

My lesson from that? My current TT stays winterized since I mainly use it for renaissance faires in the winter, so there is no water. Thus, the toilet is not functioning. Once I get a campervan, it is a converted van with a bed in it for me; no more.

Did you have a point? I am not trying to be a LEO. I was posing a hypothetical question, and adding absurdity given how many people kept saying there was a lack of humanity because some of us wouldn't let someone else use our own bathroom in a TT!

I do NOT normally travel with water on board, since we tend to do full hook-ups. So my answer would be NO...as you could not flush.

Assuming an emergency situation. I may have been smart enough to fill the tank. In which case, we would barely have enough water to substain our needs...answer is still NO.

I spent the holiday just north of Miami. Made 3 deliveries in the Miami area on Tuesday, moved to just south of Jacksonville. Wednesday morning I crossed over to Gainesville, FL. By Wednesday afternoon I was crossing back over to I-95 for the coastal ride up to Philly.

Traffic stunk, lots of Florida plates heading north. I saw a few little naked butts (some boys just drop em to their ankles and left if fly). Quite a few heading to or from the woods. As well as the front and rear doors open with mom or dad standing by.

Once or twice....I even "check my tires" on an on/off ramp. I have an inevertor, fridge,tv, etc... on board, but no potty. Like those running, I pick a spot where I can as well. You may KNOW what I am doing...I don't really care.

Do what you have to do, in the situation you are in. Do NOT rely on others, and screw normal senses of decorum. Stuck in traffic...cover the best you can...let it fly.

In all honesty, what difference does it make what someone else would do? You do what you feel is the right thing to do. It doesn't really matter if everyone disagrees with you. Or agrees with you AFATG.

As a general rule I won't allow strangers into my home to use the bathroom, even if my home has wheels. But if it was Eva Longoria knocking on the door I would probably make an exception.
