A lot of those built into outlets only have a 1A charge rate so they aren't strong enough to charge many smart phones.
Heard this story before. Our Iphone 6 came from Apple with 0.5A charger.
My Apple Iphone chargers are 1.0 amp or 5 watt.:h

Seems to work well, but either this one or the one I posted arent linear as I can change the load and the -.02 display difference between them changes, but that might be cable losses in my original. I also bought a switchable 1 & 2amp test load for $1.37 DELIVERED TO THE DOOR from China. I'll be checking the accuracy on the resistors just to make sure.
scvJeff, that one does not count mAH consumed, like this one:

This meter has proven helpful in my understanding of why some outlets charge various USB devices faster than others, and that the quality of the USB cord, and its length can make a huge difference.
This linked meter can test voltage at the end of a micro USB cable, and the voltage drop can be significant.
